How Should Boxing Gloves Fit? Sizing, Break-In and Fit Checks

Navy blue boxing gloves fit guide

A well-fitting glove protects your hand, keeps your fist aligned and lets you punch with confidence. A badly fitting one causes sore knuckles and wrist pain. Here is how boxing gloves should fit.

Should I try gloves on with hand wraps?

Always. You will train with hand wraps on, so the glove should fit comfortably over them.

The 5-point fit check

  • Fingertips: they should reach the end of the glove without being crushed.
  • Fist: you can close a full fist comfortably around the grip bar.
  • Thumb: sits naturally in the attached thumb pocket.
  • Wrist: the cuff closes snugly with no gap.
  • Movement: the glove doesn’t twist when you punch.

Do boxing gloves stretch?

Leather gloves soften and mould to your hand over the first few weeks. A glove that feels slightly snug when new will usually feel perfect after a few sessions – see how to break in boxing gloves.

When should I size up?

Go up one weight if you have large hands, wear thick wraps, or the fist feels cramped. Remember that weight also depends on use – check the size chart.

FAQ

Should boxing gloves feel tight?

Snug but not painful. Your hand should not slide around inside the glove.

What if my gloves are too big?

Thicker wraps can help, but a glove that twists on impact should be replaced with a better-fitting size.

Can I exchange gloves for another size?

Unused gloves can be returned within 7 days of delivery under our return policy.
