Walk into any boxing gym and you will hear about training gloves, sparring gloves and fight gloves. They look similar, but they are built for different jobs.
What are training gloves?
All-round gloves for bag work, pads and drills, usually 12–14oz. They balance protection and speed and are the first pair most boxers buy.
What are sparring gloves?
Sparring gloves are heavier (usually 16oz) with softer, thicker padding to protect your partner. Many boxers keep one pair just for sparring so the padding stays fresh.
What are fight gloves?
Fight gloves are lighter (8–10oz), lace-up and more compact for competition. They are not designed for daily training.
Do I need more than one pair?
If you train 3+ times a week, two pairs is ideal: a training glove for the bag and a 16oz glove for sparring. It also lets each pair dry properly between sessions.
Which PunchPro gloves suit each use?
- Bag & pads: 12–14oz from any boxing gloves collection, e.g. Cleto Reyes.
- Sparring: 16oz Winning or No Boxing No Life gloves.
- Full kit: a sparring set with headgear and groin guard.
