How to Clean Boxing Gloves and Stop Them Smelling

Black and white boxing gloves care guide

Sweaty gloves left in a closed gym bag are the number one reason gloves smell and break down early. A two-minute routine after every session keeps them fresh for years.

How do I clean boxing gloves after training?

  1. Open the cuffs fully and pull out any loose wrap fibres.
  2. Wipe the outside with a soft cloth dampened with water and a drop of mild soap.
  3. Wipe the inside lining with an antibacterial wipe.
  4. Air-dry with the cuffs open, ideally near a fan – never on a heater or in direct sun.

How do I stop gloves smelling?

  • Always wear hand wraps – they absorb most of the sweat.
  • Use glove deodorisers or cedar inserts between sessions.
  • Rotate two pairs so each fully dries.

What should I avoid?

Don’t put gloves in a washing machine, soak them, or use bleach or alcohol on leather. Heat cracks leather and metallic finishes.

How often should I deep clean?

Once a month, wipe inside and out more thoroughly and leave them to dry for a full day.

When is it time for new gloves?

If the padding feels flat, the lining is torn or your knuckles hurt on the bag, it’s time to upgrade. Browse our boxing gloves and check the size chart.

FAQ

Can I use baby powder in gloves?

A light dusting can absorb moisture, but dedicated glove deodorisers work better and leave no residue.

How long do boxing gloves last?

With good care, a quality pair lasts 1–3 years of regular training.
