Boxing shoes do one job: keep you connected to the canvas while you move. They're deliberately thin-soled and light, because every millimetre of cushioning between your foot and the floor is power you lose on a pivot. If you've been training in running shoes, the first session in proper boots feels like someone finally plugged you in.

High-top vs low-top

High-tops wrap the ankle and restrict roll, which matters most for heavier fighters and anyone who plants to punch. Low and mid-cut boots free the ankle for faster direction changes and suit out-fighters who live on their toes. Neither is objectively better — it follows your style.

• Nike HyperKO 1: Flywire cables through the midfoot, forefoot lockdown strap, low-profile outsole. The structured option — most support of the three.
• Nike HyperKO 2: Exoskeleton cage with a sock-like inner fit and split sole. More flexible than the HyperKO 1, better for fighters who want the foot to move naturally.
• Nike Machomai 2: The lightest build. Minimal upper, wrap-around rubber outsole, high-top ankle. Favoured for speed and long sparring rounds.
• Mizuno: Lightweight with a breathable upper and a flatter, more traditional profile.

Sizing

Boxing boots run close to true size but fit snugger than trainers by design — a loose boot means your foot slides inside it on a pivot. Most fighters take their normal size. If you're between sizes or wear thick socks, size up half. Every pair here lists both US and UK sizing.

Care

Keep them for the gym only. Outdoor wear destroys the thin outsole faster than anything else you can do to them. Wipe down after sessions and air dry — never near a radiator, which hardens the sole and cracks the upper.
